Semester 2 Research Drawing 2019
Drawing with sounds

Drawing with sounds has been a challenging process. Recording a mark for a specific sound makes sense.
I have chosen the site Malabar Battery in Sydney to record information. I have a connection to this site and when i revisit get a sense of nostalgia. Exploring the abandon world war 2 bunkers and painting graffiti. Built as a coastal defence for World war 2. It is a structure that meets the ocean and the headland is a connection I have with surfing. To me, this site is constantly in a state of flux. New inhabitants, what once started as a war bunker has transformed into a place of discovery and soon may be loss. I recorded drawings, photos, sounds and video footage. I have discovered that recording sounds is just as important as recording physical drawings.
I have discovered drawing as a physical and mental process. To draw what i see, but also to draw what i imagine i would see.
Influences
Jona Jonas

Joan Jonas is a major influence in this semesters work. The idea of layering reflected in each work. The concept that the brain functions in layering. In today's society we are bombarded with images, videos in a technological world. In our environment, layers and traces of history are ubiquitous.

Marian Tubbs work that combines free sharing internet material. Internet and social media bombardes society and i am interested how she employs this idea as layers and found readymade material in the work.

I have been considering architecture and the use of real space when creating and presenting a work.
I am interested in the multi-media installation and how this sets up a duality for the viewer. The spectator must physically toggle between each screen and ultimately make a decision on what screen to view.
Interesting Thesis by
Nick Terra with a range of artists that discuss this idea.

Drawing this semester has opened me up to drawing as a way of process, ideas and research.
I have found a way to develop and grapple with my visual ideas through drawing with a range of media.
Drawing is not just using materials such as pencil, charcoal to paper.
A range of multimedia can be explored.

Experimenting with projection on projection and this links to the layers of the site.

Playing with Stop Animation in the App Stop Motion
Opens the possibilities up. Would like to explore this further in real space at the site.

in relation to footage and this artist.
Thinking of simple ways to create low-resolution effects when shooting video.
Premier pro - mosaic effect in premier pro.
Manipulating colours of the pixels created by that effect.
work runs counter to image culture. counter to higher resolution cameras televisions and other devices. low res works.
oscillates between patterns of light and discern or make out figures. Jim campbell interesting artist creates low res video arrays. has the ability to do that.
Strong poetic dimension remove certain level of detail whats left is kind of poetry because we've removed detail but retains level of specificity.
Key moments detail will flood back in coincide with the movements of the figures. Brain able to invent detail that wasn't there.
Specificity of the movements and tone but all the detail has been removed. Outlines of these shapes. Reducing these images to a very pure tone. Pure tone also in the absence of line. No line created.
